Roles and Responsibility
• Leads, plans, coordinates and executes all tasks of the Track Maintenance Team efficiently, including spot re-railing, spot re-sleepering, cutting and grinding rail and turnout replacement and repair.
• Leads, plans, coordinates and executes all tasks of the welding team including cutting rail, welding rail, clipping and un-clipping rail, use of the rail tensor, rail grinding and manual tamping at the welding joint.
• Executes and records preventive, corrective, repair and emergency activities
• The Track Maintenance Supervisor ensures that maintenance, including safety of critical equipment, is executed safely and efficiently while maximizing production costs and achieving performance targets.
• Reviews, initiates, direct and implements maintenance strategies to ensure the safe passage of rolling stock throughout the rail corridor.
• Conducts regular safety inspections and implements corrective actions as required.
• Assists with the preparation of cost estimates and BoQs regarding spares etc., through the use of the Asset Management System and with respect to the Asset Management Strategy
• Ensures all activities are performed safely and within relevant requirements and company HSEQ and operational standards
• Ensures maintenance team is fully competent and adequate personnel is available for daily maintenance tasks and repairs
• Assists management in developing the maintenance component of the annual budget and manage controllable expenditures in the section
• Engages with other operating disciplines, including planners, to coordinate facility activities
• Reviews, initiates, directs and implements research to ensure the ongoing application of new methods in maintenance activities
• Management of Contractors
• Represents the Permanent Way Senior Manager at meetings as directed
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
Academic Qualifications:
• High School Certificate or higher
Professional Qualifications:
• Proven knowledge of track maintenance
• Welding certificate
• Knowledge of track geometry and distressing techniques
• Knowledge of applicable discipline based railway standards
• Full driving license
Experience:
• Proven experience in railway industry
• Experience in writing reports
• Experience in heavy haul railway maintenance desirable
