Key Accountabilities:
Perform concept studies, including trade-offs and performance predictions, on the Guidance, Navigation, and Flight Control systems for new proposed guided weapons and unmanned systems. Select/specify the requirements of major sub-systems such as airframe, propulsion, actuators, motion sensors, and seekers.
Specify the modelling and simulation environments as well as the high-level architecture of the Guidance, Navigation, Flight Control, and Mission Management algorithms to be implemented in guided weapons and unmanned vehicles.
Participate in and oversee the planning, execution and post processing of modelling and simulation activities, hardware-in-the-loop tests, flight test activities (including pre-flight preparation to post-flight analysis) and other analysis methods
Perform technology audits, identify technology gaps, and supervise the planning, execution, and completion of research projects to establish the expertise to fill these gaps.
Advise on the establishment of future Guidance, Navigation, and Flight Control capabilities, infrastructure, tools and laboratories.
Act as the technical advisor and point of contact for Guidance, Navigation, and Flight Control projects.
Conduct investigations on (but not limited to) innovative technologies and implementation of futuristic methodologies and algorithms. Share this vision with the team.
Supervise the establishment of departmental development and qualify control procedures and manuals to reduce uncertainty in schedule and development risk
Stay current on advances in technologies that may provide opportunities to a project or broader company objectives
Act as the technical mentor for the team, guiding and developing their problem solving capability and coaching and mentoring them while they execute tasks of increasing complexity
Experience & Education Qualifications:
Minimum: 25+ years of experience in successfully combining modelling, simulation, control design, and estimation methods in the design of guidance, navigation, and flight control systems for guided missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. Work experience in an interdisciplinary development environment is required.
Minimum: Master’s degree or higher in the Physical Sciences or Engineering in an Aerospace related field of study with an emphasis on Automatic Control Systems.
